Mr. Su is a prolific entrepreneur in health care, finance and manufacturing across the Asia Pacific region, and provides Velos with strategic direction. He is also founder and CEO of our Chinese affiliate, PUMC Pharmaceutical, as well as founder and executive chairman of Dentall China, the largest dental laboratory in China. He is also a founder of MasterLink Securities Group, one of the largest investment banks in Taiwan. Mr. Su is also an active investor in real estate and high technology. The group of companies Mr. Su has founded since 1973 comprises leading innovators in their respective industries, and employs thousands of people in the U.S., China, Hong Kong and Taiwan. Mr. Su holds an MA in International Relations from Lehigh University.

Sherwyn Hung Vice President, Commercial Operations
In addition to supervising Velos' commercial operations, Mr. Hung is also the General Manager for our Chinese affiliate, PUMC Pharmaceutical. Prior to Velos and PUMC, Mr. Hung spent 27 years with U.S. and European large pharma and life science companies. For Sandoz, he was General Manager of Sandoz Hong Kong and China, and Regional Marketing Director of Sandoz Asia Pacific. For Smithkline Beecham, Mr. Hung was hired as General Manager of SKB Taiwan to consolidate the Smithkline and Beecham operations in Taiwan immediately following their merger. Other roles included Chief Operating Officer of Asia Renal Care, Department Head of Abbott Laboratories' Hospital Division, and Sales Manager for Eli Lilly Taiwan. Mr. Hung holds an MBA from the Kelley School of Business at Indiana University Bloomington.

Gerald Su Director, Business Development
In addition to managing the business development activities for Velos, Mr. Su is also Director of Finance & Corporate Development for our Chinese affiliate, PUMC Pharmaceutical. Prior to Velos and PUMC, Mr. Su worked in New York, London, San Francisco and Washington D.C. in various finance and strategy positions, including as a consultant to the United Nations, as Director of Corporate Development & Strategy for a Silicon Valley technology company, and as an investment banker with the Global Healthcare Group at Salomon Brothers, where he focused on life science IPOs and mergers & acquisitions. Mr. Su holds an MBA from Columbia Business School, with concentrations in Finance & Entrepreneurship.

Board of AdvisorsTrevor Blake Advisor
Mr. Blake is CEO of QOL Medical, a specialty pharmaceutical company. Prior to QOL, Mr. Blake was VP of Commercial Development at CEPTYR and Director of Commercial Development at Orphan Medical. He has extensive experience in designing business models, building commercial teams from start up, negotiating licenses, and working closely alongside scientists and clinical development teams. He has worked in the U.K., Europe and the U.S. with companies such as Biogen, 3M Pharmaceuticals, and Lipha, and has won many industry awards, including marketing professional of the year. Mr. Blake holds an MBA from Durham University and a BS from the Royal College of Radiotherapy. He is also a graduate of the Royal Naval Academy, Britannia Royal Naval College.

Du-Shieng Chien, PhD Advisor
Dr. Chien is President and CEO of SunTen PhytoTech, a leading company specializing in the development of novel botanical drugs and related products. Prior to SunTen, Dr. Chien held several scientific and management positions with Allergan, Bayer, Neurogen, and the National Health Research Institutes (Taiwan) responsible for pharmacokinetic and metabolic functions in support of new drug discovery and product development. Dr. Chien is also a member of the Rho-Chi, the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS), and the Society of Chinese BioScientists in America (SCBA). He is the holder of four U.S. patents, and has published 80 research papers in major pharmaceutical and medical journals and books. Dr. Chien received his BS in Pharmacy from Taipei Medical College, and his PhD in Biopharmaceutics and Pharmacokinetics from the University of Iowa. He completed his post-doctorate training in the areas of drug delivery and controlled-release systems from the University of Southern California.

Hisamaro Garugu, MSc, PhD Advisor
Dr. Garugu has held numerous positions with International Operations at Eisai over the last 30 years, including Head of Marketing, Head of Regulatory Affairs, and Director of Exports. He has been actively involved in Eisai's globalization activities, having traveled and worked in more than 50 countries on Eisai's behalf. Since his retirement in 2004, he has continued to serve as a Senior Advisor to establish Eisai's operations in India. Dr. Garugu has published more than 20 research papers in reputed international journals and has five years of teaching experience at Banaras Hindu University (BHU). Dr. Garugu received his PhD from BHU, where his research topic was Endocrine Control of Lipid Metabolism. He was then awarded a post-doctoral fellowship by the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) to conduct further research at Tokyo University and Waseda University. He then remained in Japan to join Eisai as a researcher.

Scott Maguire Advisor
Mr. Maguire is CEO of Lipoxen plc, a biotechnology company specializing in
product development of BioBetter and next generation vaccines. He
implemented strategies and business development initiatives to move the
company from research phase to a product development company. He led the
company's listing in London in January 2006. He is also a director and
co-founder of Healthcare Capital Partners Ltd., a healthcare and life
science M&A advisory boutique and a proprietary venture capital fund, with
offices in London, New York and Paris. He is also a director and co-founder
of Renal Services Ltd., a dialysis services provider with clinics in the UK.
He has extensive experience devising strategies and managing fast-growing
life science and healthcare companies. He has raised capital around the
world for early to late stage and private-to-public life science and
healthcare companies.
Mr. Maguire moved from the US to London in 1996 to assist in establishing
Arthur Andersen's global healthcare corporate finance practice. He has
also worked at National Medical Care (now Fresenius Medical Care) as a
manager responsible for global corporate development and financial analysis.
He started his banking career in 1987 with Merrill Lynch in New York. Mr. Maguire holds an MBA from Babson (Olin) Graduate School.

John Martin, MB, ChB, MD, FRCP, FESC, FMedSci Advisor
Professor Martin is world-renowned in the field of cardiovascular biology. He is currently the British Heart Foundation Chair of Cardiovascular Science at University College London (UCL), as well as co-founder, director and Chief Scientific Officer of Ark Therapeutics, a publicly-listed gene therapy company. Prior to Ark, Professor Martin was head of Pharmacology and Head of Cardiovascular Research at Wellcome Research Laboratories. He has also served as Vice President of the European Society of Cardiology, as Chairman of the Expert Cardiovascular Committee in DG XII at the European Commission, and as President of the European Society for Clinical Investigation. Professor Martin has over 25 years of research experience, with 10 related to industry. He has published over 200 research papers, and is a member of the editorial board of the journal Circulation. In 2001, he received a grant of £5.4 million from the British Heart Foundation to invest in research at UCL. He was the biology finalist for the Descartes Prize in Research in 2004, and he held the Queen Victoria Eugenia Visiting Chair at the Complutense University of Madrid in 2005. Professor Martin holds an MD, MB and ChB from the University of Sheffield. He is also a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians, the European Society of Cardiology, and the Academy of Medical Sciences.

Shudong Xiao, MD, FRCP Advisor
Professor Xiao has been Director of the Key Laboratory of Digestive Disease, Health Ministry of the People's Republic of China since 1994. He is also the Honorary Director of the Shanghai Institute of Digestive Disease, Vice President of the Asia Pacific Association of Gastroenterology, and Council Member of the International Digestive Cancer Alliance (IDCA). He has also served as Chief Physician at Shanghai Renji Hospital, affiliated with the former Shanghai Second Medical University. As a clinician, he has worked in different basic and clinical fields related to H. pylori and related diseases, such as peptic ulcers, gastritis and gastric cancer. Professor Xiao is the Editor-in-Chief of the Chinese Journal of Gastroenterology (in Chinese, published monthly) and the Journal of Digestive Diseases (in English, published quarterly, indexed by Medline since January 2004). He is also an editorial board member for several international journals of gastroenterology, and is the author or co-author of over 200 research papers and several books. Professor Xiao received his MD from Shanghai Second Medical University, which merged into Jiaotong University and changed its name to Jiaotong University School of Medicine in 2005. He is also a member of the Royal College of Physicians in the UK. |
